Welcome to the team, Pooja Vora, as our Policy Fel Welcome to the team, Pooja Vora, as our Policy Fellow! Pooja Vora received her bachelor’s from Temple University in 2011, working after as a paralegal for eight years in various areas of the law; immigration, patent, and tax. Currently, she is a Master’s Candidate at Georgetown University, McCourt School of Public Policy where she is pursuing her interest in immigration, education, housing, and racial equity issues. At McCourt, she was a Research Assistant for Eva Rosen, where she was responsible for researching court eviction cases and researching different eviction laws. She also participated in a sprint with the U.S. Census Bureau to develop an app to help resettled refugees find services nearby. Pooja is a founding member and current president of the McCourt Migration and Refugee Policy Initiative whose mission centers around highlighting and promoting evidence-based migration issues. She is also a student representative on the McCourt Diversity and Inclusive Environment Committee, working with staff and faculty members to advocate for and promote a more diverse student body and environment. Ultimately, she hopes to combine her areas of interest and pursue policy issues to advance equity for all children in the K-12 education system. We’re excited to continue expanding our team and capacity, thanks to the support of our community throughout this past year. At the Center for Racial Justice in Education, we At the Center for Racial Justice in Education, we believe that the histories, stories, and voices of Black people should be centered, honored, and uplifted in school curricula every day. We also acknowledge the importance, relevance and origins of Black History Month. In 1926, Carter D. Woodson and the ASALH (Association for the Study of African American Life and History) launched “Negro History Week” to promote the studying of African American history as a discipline and to celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans. Today, we still see the absence of Black history and experience in our textbooks, required readings, STEM, and overall curriculum of our educational system. As we enter February, Center for Racial Justice in Education is providing resources to be used beyond the scope of this one-month. Swipe through to see a summary of our resources in this guide, and visit our website for further reading! #blackhistorymonth #BHM

-Amanda Gorman
.
A powerful poem and ending delivered by Amanda Gorman at today’s #Inauguration. While we have much work ahead, the beginning of the #BidenHarris administration is feeling like a fresh breath of air. We ask you all with Amanda, are we brave enough to embody the justice we want to see?
What we’ve witnessed last week at the Capitol wa What we’ve witnessed last week at the Capitol was white supremacy in action: the lack of accountability towards a riot incited by Trump and his supporters, the 11th hour wake-up call of Congress to escalate removal of the president from office after 4 years of turmoil, and the disturbingly explicit message law enforcement has sent that they DO know how to not use deadly force. We know folks are at different places towards racial justice, and we offer our flagship “Talking About Race” training happening twice this month to provide you with the definitions, context, and tools to name race and disrupt racism. It has always been true that we need to move beyond talking about race and move towards taking action. We will begin launching our follow-up “Taking Action: Scenario Practice” training this spring, with our “Talking About Race” training serving as the grounding prerequisite training to attend. Click the link in our bio to register today, and stay tuned for more action steps and messaging from us here at CRJE.
