“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”

The Community of Anti-Racist Educators (CARE) Leadership Program is designed to answer the call of educators across the country, a call for opportunities for continued learning, healing and restorative practices to center one’s well-being, peer to peer connection, and engagement in sustained communities of practices that go deeper and beyond one-day professional development sessions.

Through a series of trainings, workshops, and discussions, educators enrolled in CARE will work towards becoming anti-racist educators and building community. In each cohort, participants will:

  • Deepen their understanding of how race and racism manifests in classrooms, schools, and the lived experiences of their colleagues and their students
  • Collaboratively gain strategies and resources for creating racial equity in their classrooms and schools
  • Develop tools for shaping their own healing and restorative practices
  • Become part of a community of educators who are building an anti-racism practice in their classrooms and schools

For Spring 2024, participants will have the option of joining either the Saturday cohort or Tuesday cohort.

Healing and Restoration in Anti-Racism Work

In this two-part workshop, participants explore the meaning and practice of collective healing. Educators are guided through exercises for individual and community wellness, and develop tools for shaping their own healing and restorative practices.

Talking About Race in the Classroom

In this flagship training, educators strengthen their analysis of how racism manifests in schools and classrooms, enhance their understanding of how racism affects children, practice utilizing tools to address race and racism with students, and gain strategies to support a school-wide culture of respect, equity, and inclusivity.

Taking Action: Strategies and Scenario Practice

In this workshop, participants will continue applying a racial equity lens to scenarios related to race and racism in the classroom. Through this guided practice, participants will explore their own racial identity as it pertains to their pedagogy as educators.

Talking Impact: Unconscious Bias in the Classroom

In this training, participants will dive into how internalized and interpersonal racism manifest as unconscious bias and microaggressions. Participants will explore the impact of unconscious bias on the academic and social-emotional development of students, learn how these biases affect their educational practices, and gain tools to recognize and address their own racial biases.
