Growing up an immigrant in the South, Purvi experienced being the only brown child in a poor white school – and the impacts of racism, unfair distribution of educational resources, and tracking. She brings this experience to further transformation towards gender, economic, and racial equity. She won the inaugural SONY South Asian Excellence Award for Social Service for her leadership fighting gender violence and recently completed a year-long study and report, Seeding Generations, which catalyzed a new NYC initiative on community-based interventions for people who cause harm and abuse. Terrain Tracks is her award-winning poetry book. Miracle Marks, her new collection on women and the sacred, is forthcoming in Fall 2019. Her favorite art practices are her sparkly eyeshadow and raucous laughter. Discover more @PurviPoets or http://purvipoets.net.
