Megan Pamela Ruth Madison is a doctoral candidate at Brandeis University and co-author of First Conversations–a series of books for young children on race, gender, consent, and love. When she’s not working on finishing up her dissertation, she works as a trainer for the New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, The Center for Racial Justice in Education, and Bank Street’s Center on Culture, Race & Equity. Before graduate school, Megan worked as a preschool teacher in Chicago. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in studies in religion and a master’s degree in early childhood education. As an elected member of the governing board, Megan contributed to the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s revised position statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice and the field’s first position statement on Advancing Equity. She currently serves on the governing boards of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice and JOIN for Justice.
